21 December 1983 - SERVICE overprints in English with red ink

Very rare First Day Cover of the definitive stamps with the SERVICE overprint. All the poisha value stamps have a horizontal overprint, but the Taka values, which are horizontal in desgn, have the angled overprint. The cover bears a Dhaka cancellation. Like the definitive FDC, it is on the World Communications Year 1983 envelope created for the World Communications Year stamps that were issued on the same day as the definitives and SERVICE overprinted stamps. Additional: The smaller sized stamps have the overprint placed on it horizontally, while the larger stamps have it place diagonally. It is often hard to see it on the smaller stamps. Overinking and perforation errors are found in many of these issues. The entire set was reprinted on a cream colored paper.

Numerous misperforation varieties can be found in most of the definitive sets of Bangladesh.

This cover was mailed from Dhaka from the office of the Inspector-General of Police, to the Chief of Police, Copenhagen, Denmark. There are no receiving marks on the cover. It was mailed on 4 December 1991 and bears 10 of the 20p Mail Sorting stamps, 10 of the Tk.1 Kamalapur Railway Station stamps, and a single Tk.5 stamp from the Ashur printing of 1976.

This stamp was not originally issued with the diagonal overprint, only the horizontal one. Later, the Russian printed it with the diagonal overprint. Above are examples with the diagonal overprint and an inverted diagonal overprint. This is the only stamp from this set that had the two varieties of overprints. Also the diagonal overprint is seen on the above cover, what appears to be dated 20 October 1985. At the bottom of the cover is a P.O. slogan, “Use G E P Money Order Service to send your money.”

16 September 1992 - SERVICE overprint
This stamp was printed in Russia, but the overprint was added by the Postal Printing Press, in Bangladesh. Note that the quality of the overprint is not as good as that on the other stamps on the Bangladesh page. The others, in Bangla, were done by the Security Press, whereas this was done by the Postal Printing Press that prints the FDC envelopes, inserts. etc..
Note the position of the SERVICE overprint on the stamp. It is not the same as the single stamp illustrated above it.
Additional: It is said that this is the most expensive of all the SERVICE stamps due to the small number that was overprinted. Numerous misperforation varieties can be found in most of the definitive sets of Bangladesh.
